Waterproofing of a car parking deck above a storeage space in a development of huge new flat buildings - Ampthill, Bedfordshire
Project Details

A store area was build during a large redevelopment of an old mansion in a village in rural Bedfordshire. The store was build without input from a waterproofing expert and was allowing water through the ceiling and the walls. Beautiful Basements was asked to waterproof the deck which was due to become an area for car parking. A structural concrete slab was laid with a fall to drain water; this was then extensively cleaned and prepared in order to allow adhesion for the layers above. . Beautiful Basements then sprayed thick bitumen with a glass fibre reinforcing mesh over the concrete slab. Subsequent drainage layers and tarmac were laid to allow cars to park on the deck. The substrate of the store below was repaired and cementitious slurry was applied to the walls and floor to provide a completely dry store area. The substrate to the store below was repaired and cementitious slurries applied to give a completely dry storage area underneath the car park area.

Lift pit in large factory leaking water and mixing with hydraulic oil
Project Details

At the large United Biscuit factory where bagged foods such as crisps and biscuits are produced, a lift pit had been subject to a hydraulic oil leak for around 15 years, with water ingress mixing with the oil to make an incredibly thick and dirty black film on all surfaces. National Tanking were brought on board to solve the water ingress problem. All the surfaces were extensively cleaned and prepared ready for waterproofing. In a series of stages the walls and floor were repaired and primed using Koster Aquatecnic waterproofing slurries. The waterproofing consisted of 3 coats of waterproofing slurry and finished with an oil resistant wearing coat to prevent oil breaking the slurry down.

Deck waterproofing using external spray tanking
Project Details

Following the installation of a garden basement in London, specialist contractor MRA Refurbishment commissioned Beautiful Basements to waterproof the basement roof prior to garden installation. Works involved the creation of a sump chamber to remove excess rainwater and deck waterproofing using a proprietary bitumen product. The project was carried out in three stages. Firstly, a sump pit in the roof void was established and modification of the existing deck to provide the required falls. During the next stage, a mortar screed was applied to the entire floor. This was embedded with reinforcing mesh to provide added stability for the waterproofing material to be applied afterwards. Surrounding planters, parapet and retaining walls were covered with Delta Geotextile. The final stage of deck waterproofing was provided by the company's specialist spray division, National Tanking. Using Deuxan, a solvent free, thick bitumen sealant by leading waterproofing systems manufacturer Koster, the bitumen was sprayed at very high pressure onto the floor and planter bases to a thickness of 4mm. The accuracy of the high pressure spray ensures a continuous thickness and excellent adhesion across the surface reducing the potential for air bubbles and other defects. Waterproofing took place in one day and was ready for the garden installation within 48 hours.

A cess pit built along site a church renovation was leaking external water, tripling the cost of emptying the pit.
Project Details

18th Century Church in a rural setting 5 miles outside Shrewsbury, Shropshire had a cesspit build to accommodate inhabitants under new government guidelines. Built from blocks with a concrete base and render finish it had no waterproofing at all. After the initial build it began to leak and several attempts were made to waterproof the pit, unsuccessfully. Water was coming it at such a rate it would have filled the pit three times as fast as designed, meaning much more frequent, and very costly emptying. Beautiful Basements were called in to try and solve the problem. The substrate was extensively cleaned and taken back to the original render, any defects in render or concrete on the floor were repaired and all surfaces in the pit were primed and waterproofed using a range of Koster Aquatecnics cementitious rage of slurries. Mr L said of the project It was very good to find a company that could provide a solution to our problem. Several others told us it could not be done, you proved them all wrong!
